Today we welcomed our new employee Fiona to the office. About 6 months ago Fiona approached us for advice on how to move from teaching teenagers Product Design and get ‘into’ the business of Product Design. After lots more discussion on the subject we offered Fiona the position of Business Development Manager, and fortunately she accepted. Amongst many other things, Fi will be developing new and existing client relationships, getting to grips with e-marketing and most importantly making sure that we all get paid on time!
Fiona’s first day was spent finding out about the day to day running of Realise and getting the gist of what it is like to be a part of a fully operational design team. Many cups of tea were drunk and biscuits munched and we think that some of the information went in, especially the part about lunchtimes and what time we finished at the end of the day! Overall it was a success, Fiona seems to be settling in well and even remarked:
“After working in education for nearly 10 years, this is such a refreshing change. Andy and Ed are great fun and truly passionate about what they do. I am delighted to be here and I look forward to being a part of Realise Design”.
Fiona had been working as a secondary school Design Technology teacher in the Bath area and despite enjoying working in the education sector, she felt that it was time to spread her wings somewhat and instead of just teaching Design, actually get involved in it. Hence, back in March on a cold and wet evening we received a rather interesting e-mail from Fiona, asking for our advice about how to develop some commercial design skills. We were burning the mid night oil yet again in the office, so it was a perfect time to put a call into Fi and help her with her predicament. Well that was seven months ago now and in that time, not only have we assisted Fiona with her quandary, she is now part of the team…… that’s a job well done we say.
